What is the difference between bladder pressure tanks and diaphragm pressure tanks? |Aquasky

Diaphragm Pressure Tanks

Diaphragm pressure tanks can be divided into two areas: one for air, and one for water. They’re separated by a rubber diaphragm that’s permanently bonded to the inside of the tank. This rubber lining acts as the bladder would, but its connection is permanent to the tank. This particular part of the diaphragm pressure tank is not interchangeable. The diaphragm pressure tank is the most efficient pressure tank and requires the least amount of maintenance.

As water is pumped into the lower section, the diaphragm pushes up into the air area, when the pressure is greater than the preset high-pressure value, which triggers a switch that shuts off the pump. On the contrary, when there is water demand, the air squeezed in the air pressure zone is released, and the rubber diaphragm is squeezed. The water squeezed toward the joint, causing the water to flow out.

Bladder Pressure Tanks

Bladder pressure tanks use two separate areas for air and water. The bladder is a large balloon filled with air that expands and contracts, triggering the pump. Since they’re self-contained, they don’t have the issues of a diaphragm or a single chamber tank.

The bladder Pressure Tank is a balloon inside a tank that fills with water when there is pressure that is greater than that already in the bladder. A relief valve stops the water from flowing backward and reserves the water and pressure for use by the device it is feeding. One of the bladder pressure tank's problems is having the bladder “get stuck to itself” and remain uninflated. This can cause rapid pump cycling.

Diaphragm pressure tanks and bladder pressure tanks both have advantages and disadvantages, we can not say in a word, but according to the characteristics of both and local conditions, we can choose the better one.
